Actually, this is in response to Cheryl's statement about her bowls from =
=3D
her early days and the warm fuzzies seeing them in use gave her..... and =
=3D
Cindy's statement about returning to the "creative loop" by getting =3D
into the studio and just "making something."
I seldom have such days ... as some of you have surmised, evidenced by =3D
your private e-mails to me ... mostly because I'm such an anciana, =3D
retired and eternally grateful to have found clay instead of joining the =
=3D
ranks of the Ladies Who Lunch .... (some of my best friends, so don't =3D
tell them I said that)...... but when I do, I break my preferred cycle =3D
of wheel work and turn to slabs ... not talkin' complex slab work here,
but loose, non-symmetrical vases or wide floppy- rimmed, shallow bowls =3D
.... lookin' as if they required tons of creativity and work ... NOT... =3D
and simple cutouts of leaves for walls or spoonrests, after hangin' over =
=3D
a balloon for awhile ... big fish for walls similar to the lovely that =3D
Valice sent me ... similarity, however, ends with the shape ... hers is =3D
exquisite, a true art form. When I tire of that routine, I begin again =3D
on the Shimpo with what I call MugBoxes. That's when my mugs go wrong =3D
(which they do if I've been out of it for a while) so I close them up, =3D
cut the top off on a diagonal, in an irregular pattern, for a lid, slap =3D
on a what-do-you-call-the-handle-on-top?... and when I receive Sheila's =3D
order for supplies, I'll wrap a rattan decorative bit around that last =3D
part.... once I've learned to make them. NOTHING artistic, mechanical, =3D
technical or having to do with directionality comes easily to me... but =3D
I AM persistent ... ol' fate didn't leave me totally bereft.
Oddly enough, folk seem to like all of this claywork, which has as its =3D
sole purpose to move me back into my personal mainstream with a fresher =3D
attitude. I must like them, too,=3D20
since they're all over my home. Never thought about that before this =3D
epistle.

In the Mojave once again planting desert foliage (yeah, right)
..... one of about 30 maybe manages to survive... lush and pathetic at =3D
the same time ... on our desert scrub, if it doesn't shoot up by itself, =
=3D
you can about count on it not lastin' ... but when it DOES get a grip, =3D
it's as you describe bamboo.... it hangs on big time....
