Dear John Forstall,

Assuming you have a typo error and the term is Micro-crystalline glaze, =
then it is one where the crystals are not distinguishable from the =
background as discrete entities without the aid of some sort of =
magnifying device, for example, a microscope. They would be seen as =
contrasting fields or tone or colour. Many matt glazes have this nature. =
If you can see discrete crystals and can recognise them by their shape, =
as plates, needles or other obvious shapes then the glaze would, I =
believe be referred to as macro crystalline.

Any of the popular compilations of glaze recipes contain examples. Or =
alternatively look in the Clayart Archives. Several people contribute to =
the list with excellent appraisals of published glazes. Alisa from =
Denmark and Ababi of Israel have provided such information which would =
be of use to you.

Best regards,

Ivor Lewis. Redhill, south Australia
