after a year of playful attempts, i have recently completed my first
bonsai pot. i threw the form it is short and wide. it has little feet,
is glazed on the outside and has plenty of drain holes. i am still
looking for a good tree for my pot, so i don't know how well my bonsai
will grow, but it's a cute pot.

But what I am looking for is the best technique, slab, thrown, whatever.
My first few attempts were terrible. How can it be so easy to throw a
regular planter, yet bonsai planters still elude me?

Chris,
did you by any chance read Ivor's article in the latest Pottery Making
Ilustrated? It seems very timely.

And after 60, wow. Being 31 it's tough to really think about it, but I =
can't see where an age should ever be a cut off point, a place to stop. =
I plan to work to a ripe old age and die face down in the best pot I =
ever made!! It's just a number, age is an attitude. I feel like a kid, =
I act like a kid. It embarrasses the hell out of my eleven year old but =
what the hell. If I want to run through the sprinklers I'm damn well =
going to do it!! Feel young be young, chris

yes I did read Ivor's article, but I still suck : ) I've never had much luck
with that kind of technique. I guess practice is what I need. I'll have to
dig that mag out, where it is I'm not sure, and tape it up in front of my
wheel. Thanks for reminding me what magazine it was in : ) chris
