Is is that you just don't recognize the skill if it is't one that you
have?

Seems to me that you haven't the first clue about what art is, unless it
happens to be in a medium that you have some knowledge of. Nor do you
have the insight to realize that just because you don't know the medium,
that you might not have even the basic minimum of knowledge to allow you
to form even a slightly informed opinion of that which you dismiss so
glibly.

Obviously you know everything about every artistic =
endeavor....That is why you interpret my opinion as coming from a lack =
of knowledge....Well I'll tell you what.....I KNOW A LITTLE ABOUT =
IT!!!!!HEHEHEHEHEHOHOHOHOECKECK...cough cough
I may not be a scholar and a gentleman like yourself but I have =
and continue to investigate any and everything that anyone has or does =
put forth in the name of art....My "glib" opinion is based on =
investigation and not on lack of information....If I come upon something =
called art by someone that I do not understand as art, then I am very =
interested until I figure out what makes it tick....Most of the time =
such a find turns out to be someone way too proud of their little =
diplomassss, with way too much money, and a huge dose of pretension.
Great art can and is made by children......Great art can come from =
a chunk of caliche(chalk rock) applied to the sidewalk....It can reside =
with a bare foot in the sand on a lonely beach .....The addition of =
pretense, diplomas, and money make it much easier to imitate the real =
thing but much harder to recognize it....All of your daddies money =
hinders instead of develops a sense of art....you either have it to =
begin with or you don't....You can also have it and then totally lose it =
by twisting it around and convoluting the energy until "It can't be art =
unless" ....bullshit....It either is art or it is not....Art happens in =
the heart and soul and doesn't require a critic....Maybe you should =
leave behind your extensive knowledge and grab up a piece of chalk and =
mess up a nice white wall...Maybe you will catch a glimpse of that which =
you left so far behind...
Glasswork is a much more commercial(read insert money here) =
discipline than even claywork....If I had the money to set up a glass =
studio and a good book about it, in a month or two I could be Chilhuling =
with the best of them...I have been an avid photographer since my little =
Brownie automatic, and I can tell you that photographic art can just as =
easily come from that Brownie as from your $100,000 dark room...Warhol =
used a polaroid and was good enough for Polaroid inc to continue to =
supply him his favorite film long after it ceased being available to the =
public....
I have no money, so my opinion does not matter...I have no money, =
so what I see as truth you KnoWledgE is a lie.......I have no money, so =
I can't always get HigH FalootiN materials and process to work with....I =
am forced to work at the fundamentals....So I know enough about other =
forms of art, than what I choose, to be able to dismiss them from my =
oeuvre as commerce inspired, or delusions of grandeur....even in many =
cases to dismiss them from my life....I don't save coke bottles
Since I rarely pursue directions I see as farcical, I may not have =
all the knowledge of, or have spent the money required to gain such =
insight of all the mediums... You may think my not being able to recite =
the chemical formulas for every substance that can alter a ceramic under =
heat has severely limited my horizons....You may think all of my work =
could have been aided by the addition of greenback dollars....You would =
be wrong...My horizon is the horizon...
Care to stack a random piece of mine next to one of Vince's alters =
and have the unwashed decide Roman Forum style?

We are lucky in that clay does not ask that of us, although the

When you want to call someone a primadonna call them by name....I am not =
adverse to calling the occasional pretentious elitist I run into....an =
elitist pretentionist.....(Disclaimer: notice I didn't call Vince =
anything, his writings prove he knows more about ceramic process than =
any man alive)
Just more hogwash from a primmmmmodonHEHE,=20
