I was under the bizarre assumption
that after 50 I would need to begin
doing "retirement" things only.
I have completely re-evaluated
the
way I look at numbers/age/what we do
in our later years.
I am planning a whole new existence
now thanks to all this input!!!

I was about 25 when I first found clay. I thought that was very old to
start. I became a full time potter about ten years later. Now in my 60's I
am more and more successful, in that my show receipts are larger each year,
so far. I am not sure I make more pots, but I make fewer seconds, have
refined my technique more, my glaze colors are more beautiful thanks to itc
[I reduction fire] and more experience. I charge more for my pots, because
they are worth it. I love the feeling that part of me is still developing
even as the rest ages. Rikki Gill

I am very heartened when I read the works of Deepak Chopra. Deepak says the
body is built to last 135 years. So here I am at 72 years and now I feel
like I am just nicely at middle age.
I am also very excited about the new things I yet have to learn about my
beloved pottery. It keeps me awake at night, waiting till sunrise to try a
new shape.
I work on the priciple that one just keeps putting one foot in front of the
other and one day we will find out how far we got. It's a great journey.

My teacher, Tatsuzo Shimaoka, is very vigorous at 81. He does the work of two 40 year olds.
