workshops for credit; upcoming workshops at hood college

Hood college in Frederick, Maryland, has just approved graduate and/or
teacher certification credit for workshops taken through its Ceramics
Department. One credit will be given for a 2-day workshop and 3 credits
will be given for a 36-hour (and above) workshop.

MICKI SCHLOESSINGK will be giving a workshop, "Salt in a Wood-fired Kiln."
June 1 - 3 & June 8 - 10, 2001
Kiln Site and Ceramics Studio, Room 2, Tatem Arts Center
Tuition: $280

Micki Schloessingk has been firing wood/salt for 30 years. She will present
a
two-part wood/salt workshop over two weekends. Participants will bring work
to
be fired and learn the intricacies of salting a wood firing. The following
weekend
Micki will demonstrate her throwing and finishing techniques, present her
work in
an exhibition and slide lecture, and unload and analyze the results of the
firing.

ARTS 316 Special Topics: Throwing on the Potters Wheel

Four workshops packed into nine days! After four days of intensive throwing,
we
will trim, bisque fire, ansd glaze successful work and fire all of the work
in the gas
kiln. Learn concepts crucial to structural strength, build skills, refine
techniques,
and increase efficiency in throwing, trimming and glazing. Learn procedures
to
facilitate consistent results within your studio. We will finish with
indepth
