Diane Mead writes of her very engaged Guild in central Michigan. It =
would be my speculation that this interest began in early days of =
Michigan settlement and her Guild is an outgrowth of that broad base. =20
I remember rediscovering the 'lost' source of the once-famous Michigan =
Slip not far from East Lansing. Later I found that any place where =
outwash from the Wisconsin glacier had collected could be terra-siggd =
into Michigan Slip. Many glacier-clay collecting points in Michigan =
..so local use could be wide-spread. As unmodified clay/slip this =
yellowy-green clay is relatively high fire (up to 10) but it accepts =
most any flux and can give good color even at 06.
