Dear clay people,
Does anyone have any knowledge of the differences between Nigel Wood's
1978 book "Oriental Glazes: Their Chemistry, Origins and Recreation",
and his 1999 book "Chinese Glazes: Their Origins, Chemistry and
Recreation"? I'm wondering whether the later book covers the earlier
book, and whether either book is good for someone wanting to explore
Tang and Sung glazes.
Thanks,
Hilary McClure

Dear Hilary McClure,
I have both and would not like to be without either. Nigel's new book =
covers a lot of ground which would not be dealt in the first slim =
volume. His first book includes information about Japanese glazes. If =
you can afford them, get both. Both contain definitive information =
presented in a scholarly fashion.
Best regards,

Dear Hillary
The new book covers the same ground in the same way so if you can not get
hold of the earlier book- which is more concise - you will miss nothing.
If you are very interested in making oriental type glazes Robert
Tichane's books are also a must . Do not take any thing for granted and
beware opinions that sound like facts. You will have to do lots of
experiments - good luck.
Regards Paul Taylor
