If you are adamant about signing off they will give
you two to four months free.. Its like a gamble to get
more then two though.. It was funny when I did it
because I was just DONE with them, and the guy kept
pressing then said I would have to ask my supervisor
but I may be able to get you two months free... Well
he never asked me to hold on to ask his supervisor..
which reminds me I should check that e-mail account to
see if any stragglers need my new address :)

I also happened to luck out and have to cancel my
credit card that happens to be linked to them so I
won't get any surprise charges....

One day they will actually cut it off -- I think.....

Well friends... I'm still in Aye-Oh-Hell... AOL is still only sending me a
handful of Clayart posts each day. This has been going on now for over two
months. I was this close (:::holding up thumb and finger:::) to canceling my
account with them and finding another ISP, when my wife asked me not to.
Seems she just put her AOL email address on a bunch of resumes she sent out
in the midst of her job search... so... we'll wait to make the switch after
she finds a new job.

I haven't had enough time lately to go into the Clayart archives and read
each days posts, and I know that I'm probably missing a ton of good stuff If
anyone has tried to reach me through the Clayart posts... chances are I
missed it. Until I get this problem squared away, just email me directly at
RakuArtist@aol.com. All attempts to get AOL to help has failed apparently..
and to boot... they are raising their prices! Such incredible customer
service... GOSH!!!

Ken, couldn't you sign up for a free webmail
account with something like Yahoo and use that
address for you Clayart mail? Better still, you
could get another ISP and reduce your AOL account
to the bring-your-own access fee or the $4.95
option (not sure how those work.) Then you could
be AOL free except for time spent retrieving and
responding to your wife's AOL mail. You could
even uninstall the AOL computer-eating, problem
causing software and access the AOL mail via
webmail while happily using your new ISP. I gave
up AOL and didn't even have to pay for it for
several years because of a credit card deal. It
would still be free. Too many limitations and
hassles.
I have Earthlink without the software which was
too much like AOL. I just have dialup access with
no frills and I've been pleased, but thinking
about cable.
Pam

Kenneth,

Have you considered getting a Yahoo or Hotmail address, for Clayart? Both
are free. All you need to do is visit www.Yahoo.com, or www.Hotmail.com .
Simply click on Sign Me Up, and fill in the free membership form, in either
one.

Also, Earthlink has a special offer for AAA (Auto Club of America)Members,
in the USA. The first three months are $1 per month, then the monthly fee is
only $17.95, after the third month. I switched over from AO Hell to
Earthlink gradually, using this offer. I think a similar offer is made to
members of AARP.

AOL gives its soon-to-be-former customers one month free, to switch the
account over, by the way. You need to call a special toll-free phone number
when you're ready to cancel, to activate the free final month.

Best wishes!

It seems many have had AOL hell problems. I don't use it but my sister does and
has problems. My girlfriend used it for a short time and when she quit they
continued to bill her card. I took many months and phone calls, and finally
letters and phone calls to their legal department to get them to quit and credit
her account. The representitive claimed that they could'nt stop the billing at the
time she called because they had changed something with the system and to call
back. 3 times? Kept offering free months (we don't have access here). I wonder how
they can pull this stuff. If I debited a persons card without their permission I'd
loose my account and be trouble with the law.
Thanks , I feel better now
