We will be vacationing in York Beach Maine at the begining of august , does anyone know of any good potterys up there I could visit while I was there?
Those of us with a good dose of northern european peasant stock in our blood can only take so long on the beach without turning into crispy critters.
We will have a car so anyplace within an hours or so ride would be possible.

I enjoyed a visit about 10 years ago with Spaulding Pottery in Kennebunk
Maine. Mr. Spaulding was quite nice, gave me encouragement to pursue clay as
a career. His pottery is part of his house and he has a full showroom.
You'll be able to find him by contacting the chamber of commerce in
Kennebunk.

One of my favorite pottery places near York is "The
Good Earth" pottery. It is located in
Kennebunkport,ME, which is about 1/2 hour from York.
It is owned by a husband and wife. It is full of
every kind of utilitarian and decorative item you can
imagine, and they make it all. I love their glazes
and shapes. Beautiful things! There are many other
fun gift shops in Kennebunkport. Abacus has a wide
selection of fine handcrafted artwork. There is a
variety of pottery there,too.

Have fun! Gretchen Woodman

My companion and I are considering moving to Maine next Spring, god
willing and various other variables in our lives, (our truck was just
stolen and I have to replace it)and I was wondering if there are any
potters, ceramic artists in Maine who might have an apprentice (sp?) job
available? I am not a Master potter by any means, but I am a hard worker
and self starter and willing to learn anything you can teach me. I am no
stranger to cleaning, I do not make a mess when I throw, and always clean
up. I have been working in clay for 10 years off and on, I have my own 9
cu. ft electric Skutt kiln, clay and glazes and tools. I would also like
to be able to set up a pottery studio and get more serious about my work.
My goal is to be a full time potter, and financially independent.
I have wanted to move to Maine for many years and it looks like I am
finally going to get to do it!
Thanks for your consideration!

Sincerely, Janna Marcilla

Hi Jana,
There is a large ceramic arts community in Maine. Try the following leads:
Maine College of Art in Portland Maine; Maine Crafts Association which has
a website: www.mainecrafts.org ; Sawyer Street Studio in South Portland.
These are but a few.

Good Luck
Meryl Ruth
