old electric kiln coversion question

Hey -

I know that several members have converted electric kilns to electric/gas
kilns. One of the benefits of this, I understand, is that you can use the
electric to control the cool down after a cone 6 or 10 reduction firing.

I was thinking about moving the old kiln outside, converting it just as one
would for gas, but not bothering with elements and the electric, and using
it for low fire salt sagger firings, firing only with gas. I know some
folks have used old electric kilns for raku kilns, and was wondering if this
would be similar.

Has anyone done this, or any ideas about it?

Jonathan, this should work very well indeed, and last a long
time since you plan it for LOW fire salt/saggar type
firings. Do it.

I converted my old Duncan 820 to a combo gas/electric,
and have been firing to c10 reduction for a couple of
months now -- about 8 firings. Works very well, but
tough to control the atmosphere and keep flame off the
pots at times.

Here's a company I researched which offers conversion
kits for going from electric to gas-only firings:
