I just tested a beautiful new glaze that I really love - the color and
texture are both very gentle. The problem is that it's a barium matte.
I know that barium carbonate is toxic. And I know that mattes tend to leach
out their contents over time. So I'm wondering - is this glaze
automatically unsafe for use as a teabowl, or is there a chance that it can
be used to hold beverages and foods?

Hello Bret.
Unless it is pink barium glaze you can substitute it to Strontium carbonate
0.75% of the barium.
You can see it in my site.
