I have not been able to get any info on Bourrie Box kilns in the
archives, even though some potters have told me they submitted plans to
Clayart. I keep getting "no match found". Can anyone help with this?

It's properly spelled "Bourry", so that may be the problem. Pesky search
programs just don't get creative spelling . I just tried a search and
got several hits. The Bourry Box design is more popular in Australia and
there was a very good article by Steve Harrison in "Pottery in Australia"
called " Layed Back Woodfiring" several years ago. It included plans for an
approximately 25 - 30 cu. ft. kiln. It is still available as a reprint.

The Bourry Box design reqires less frequent stoking the hotter it gets,
thus the "Layed Back Woodfiring". More time for lounging in lawn chairs.
The ash effects will not the same as those of an anagama or train kiln, but
still can be quite nice, especially if some extra ash is thrown in the kiln
via ports in the chamber. It gives very nice flashing effects. Gary and
Daphne Hatcher of Pine Mills Pottery also have a great website

If you'd like more information, I'll be building a Bourry Box kiln in
October and can let you know how it turns out.
