I've used AMACO Versa lowfire white clay in the past. The clay was a pale
gray when wet, bright white after firing.
Yesterday I received a new order of the same clay and was surprised to find
it a very dark charcoal color. I've begun making test pieces with it and
suspect it will fire the bright white that AMACO claims, but am curious
about the color.
What material in it would look so dark before firing and burn out even in
bisque?
Aside from the fact that the project I'm committed to is dependent on a
white finished product, I'm not fond of throwing dark clay. I like white
clay to look nearly white....just a preference.
