get a better claybody

Not at all dismissive, IMO. It is exactly what I've been doing --
looking for a "perfect" clay-- one which throws well and complements
my growing palette of glazes.

I'm not a professional; I buy clay by the 25 pound bag and I've tried
several by now. I have just begun to realize (senior moment--shoulda
realized it sooner) that I ought to zero in on one or two clays that
offer the least challenge to throwing and make my favorite glazes
look nice (Zakin's ^6 Amber and Floating Red, pinholes and all, for
example). Haven't made a decision yet.

So, what, in your collective opinion, is a better ready-made claybody?
What cone, what atmosphere? Name names!

I fire ^10 Reduction in Geil downdraft gas kilns ....... The clays I =
favor ..... after trying many and discovering that the
desert climate greatly affects what happens to the clay, no matter how =
many bags it's wrapped in ... are: Tom Coleman's BeeMix and BeeMix =
with Sand (both fire white) ..... I also take great pleasure in using
Aardvark's Fat Red and Brown/Black, both
of which are delightful to throw and to
look at .... all of these clays are purchased
from Aardvark. I also combine the trimmings
.... yes, all of the above in one batch.... in
my mixer before pugging them. I like the
look. =20

Although I've experienced many difficulties with the dozens (possibly =
hundreds)
of glazes that have briefly intrigued me as well as with my firing in =
general, I've
never had a problem with the above mentioned clays. Different strokes =
for
different folks I know, but these are the clays
that provide what I need for ^10 R work.
