Joyce,
Thanks for the nice message. As for the work being fired and
transported. It was designed for specific locations around La
meridiana. We wouldn't carry such large pieces back on the plane. It was
an exercise in designing for site specific locations. Pietro was to fire
things as they dried and as he had open kiln room. People did take
smaller finished work home as well as many ideas for future projects of
their own in their own environment. In Oct. I hope to install the
finished pieces with the next group.
The most famous "Carytids" are in Athens. The ladies whose bodies are
supports for buildings.
Elca's dog in a toga was a great interpretation for the dog house. I do
have many pictures and others are sending me more all the time. We did
so much in two weeks it blurs the memory.
I thought 6 photos wouldn't be a bother to download. I guess I could do
more in small groups.
Now that my Raku workshop in Red Lodge is over I have a few moments!
I'd sure love to have you come along, Joyce. You would enjoy the lush
country side in the Tuscan hills.-especially coming from the desert.
>From one of the villas we had for housing, you could see Boccaccio's
home where he wrote Decameron in Certaldo during the plague in 1358.
I always feel like camp is over when my workshops end. I really enjoyed
this group.=especially the Jersey contingency who reminded me of home (Philly).
Ciao,
Marcia

I finally got some photos, 6, up and running. These are from the
may/June workshop at La Meridiana. There were several Clayarters there
including Elca Branman (see photo of her carytid) as well as others
from Texas, Seattle and North Carolina. fred Paget, Ann Gattuso and
Susan Schultz reported back to Clayart about the wonderful experience
they had at La Meridiana. Here are some photos.

What a great use of the list, Marcia! I thoroughly
enjoyed and was inspired by your pictures;=20
please post more. If I were able to get away,
I'd definitely be first in line for your October
workshop. Will your trip also be an article in
one of the ceramic publications? I hope so....
a long one with many photos. (And, no, folks,
Marcia isn't paying me ... just an expression of
my feelings upon seeing the pictures ... and,
Elca, your carytid is magnificent! But..... suppose
I could look it up...... what IS a carytid??)
I'm curious, though, as to when the work is fired and
how it is transported to the homes of the
participants??
Thank you for sharing.
