Seems to me that most of us, as potters, probably know more about the
safety of glazes on foodware than the buyers of large stores like
William Sonoma, Macy's, Pier One, etc. The only way to convey our
knowledge to them is to call or write.
A few years ago, a well-known national department store was selling
crackled foodware through its catalog using airy-fairy and erroneous
marketing language (similar to "French crackle" which was touted as
foodsafe), and I sent the president of that company a letter
explaining why the ware was unsafe and that I would never buy it.
Don't know that it did much good, but I felt better.
Be well...
