Hello y'all
I've got a curiousity question.
What cities around the country are trying to recruit artists/craftsmen as a
means to revitalize their downtowns, become art towns, etc.
It's been a subject of discussion among a few of the artists/artisans here
(some wanting to emulate and others wanting to move)
The ones I know of are:
Hannibal/Louisiana/Clarksville area of Missouri
Paducah, Kentucky
Rising Sun, Indiana
Providence, R.I.
For what it's worth the Missouri folks appear to have their act together
including a guild and special loan programs to fix up old buildings. In
Paducah I like the fact they can help artists find health insurance.
Any others? Any information on them?

Jeremy (and all else interested), ;)
I spent the week of July 9 at a first time event for Art teachers
at the Kansas City Art Institute in Kansas City, MO. During this week we
did a "gallery crawl" and visited several galleries and studios. I always
knew Kansas City was a great art city, but I didn't know just how
much. A LOT of support for artists and the arts. A couple of galleries
give gracious grants for artists to create their work and get it to the
public. You might check into it.
And besides K.C. being a great city (and I'm a small town country
boy that doesn't
say any city is "great") Missouri is a great state to live in.
Humbly submitted IMHO,
Quentin
P.S. I believe I gathered some brochures on at least one of the supporting
galleries. If you're
interested, e-mail me off list and I'll look it up for you.
