I received an e-mail from Lorraine Pierce requesting the following
substitutions which appear in Edouard Bastarache's book - 'Substitutions
for Raw Ceramic Materials'. However my reply was returned as 'Mail
Delivery Failed'.
In the hope that she is a subscriber to Clayart I post this information
to-day.

I am sorry if this confused you. There are 11 alternative substitutions
according to which raw materials you use, hence the 'take your pick'. I
have now numbered the columns and put in a '-' where there is none of
that particular raw material in that alternative. There are four
materials in each alternative recipe. On my computer, and viewing the
copy of my email and your email to Clayart, received in the Clayart
Digest, both posting lined up perfectly. I hope, therefore, that this
comes through clearly to you. Please let me know if it doesn't.
David

For 1% Cornwall Stone use any of these 11 alternatives:-
1 2 3 4 5 6
Custer 0.648 0.648 0.625 0.609 - -
Nepheline syenite - - - - 0.481 0.486
Whiting 0.044 0.044 0.044 0.043 0.044 0.045
Kaolin 0.129 - - - 0.177 -
Kaolin ( Calcined) - 0.122 - - - 0.097
Alumina - - 0.051 - - -
Alumina hydrate - - - 0.090 - -
Silica 0.217 0.222 0.297 0.302 0.378 0.377

7 8 9 10 11
Custer - - - - -
Nepheline syenite 0.475 - - - -
Kona F-4 - 0.666 0.659 0.662 0.652
Whiting 0.044 0.019 0.020 0.019 0.019
Kaolin - 0.072 - - -
Kaolin ( Calcined) - - 0.062 - -
Alumina - - - 0.032 -
Alumina hydrate 0.070 - - - 0.043
Silica 0.440 0.254 0.258 0.290 0.286
