itc woodfire question

I would recommend applying the ITC 100 before your first
stoneware firing (a bisque would be OK).
Just one firing can start to glaze over the IFBs in areas that
are hit hard by the flame.
I think your arch should be fine. I certainly would not replace
an IFB arch with a hard brick arch.

That said, I don't think your dilemma is really that critical,
and ITC application after one firing would be fine, just not
quite as desirable.

I have completed building my wood fire kiln (whewwww,as I wipe my forehead!)
and have the ITC coating to apply to the IFB, inside the chamber. The arch
was done with IFB and mortar. The thread on not doing the arch w/ mortar
came way after I had finished it. I want to fire the kiln without the ITC to
see if the mortar will crumble and fall ( I'm just stubborn damn't).
My question is: Will the ash, after one firing, and assuming I even get to
temp on the first firing, impede the penetration of the ITC to the IFB, when
and if it is applied to the arch that is in place..
Ok after reading what I just typed It seems I going to be told to just redo
the arch w/ hard brick, but I'll throw it out there anyway.
I would appreciate the input of experienced wood firers and ITC users.
