Set amongst the atmospheric tea warehouses of Butlers
Wharf, Tower Bridge, the museum covers Britains great
heritage in tea. The period 1650 to 1950 covers the
trade's involvement with ceramics, smuggling, auctions,
Boston Tea Party, Opium, clipper ships, the development
of Indian and Ceylon tea and the UK tea companies. The
past 50 years explain why 90% of tea is in tea bags,
but why leaf tea is still popular. Quality leaf tea is
available in the tea room and shop.

Norwich Castle Museum owns the largest specialist
collection of British ceramic teapots in the world. We
have nearly 3,000 pots dating from around 1720 to the
present day. Many of these are on display to the public
in the Twining Teapot Gallery at the Castle, and there
is also a Ceramic Study Room which is open to students
and researchers by written appointment.
