i fold a sheet of newspaper three times to an about 6 in. x 6 in. square.
that's all i use to get jet black by smoke or metallic copper finish by
reduction on my raku pieces. the pieces are typically 12 in. high x 8 in.
wide.
the smoking/reduction can (garbage can) is of about 10-20 gallon size.
