I just made a too-brief trip to Colorado, way up
in the high country. Ten thousand feet is great
for cool & crisp. I intended to think not a
thought regarding clay, and I didn't. Well, not
very much. There were a few interesting clays
sticking out here and there however and I brought back the
odd handful just to fire, see what it does. Mainly,
though, I wanted to get out of the Texas heat, take
a break, climb/chip a few rocks, find some solitude. I
got to do all of those, plus some. The (loaned)cabin was propane
powered, mainly, including lights and refrigerator -
a pleasure. There were deer and elk, and reputed
bear and cougar. Saw cougar tracks, but - to my
relief - no sign of bear. Don' like 'em.
The upper Conejos river has to be one of the most
beautiful in the world. And there were practically
no people there. Saw perhaps 15 or 20 cars in a week.
There are advantages to being where there are NO
conveniences. Nearest store - hour and a half away.
Ah, wilderness.
Now I'm catching up with my mail. Sort of. Nudge
me if I need it - I have no doubt I've misfiled some
stuff, since I always do.
a cool best to all -

Well, right back atcha! Have you tried firing any Hank's Shino yet? Look
for my article, "Shinos in the Fire......and Odyssey" in the next CM.
And pop a cold one for me____we just poured two concrete slabs yesterday, a
6am to 7:30pm day in 96degree heat. Yikes!

Hank,
What's with 96 degrees and Yikes. Isn't that the normal daytime summer
temperature. Here in Florida we seldom have summer days much less than 93-94
degrees so I am often bemused when the national news reports that the
temperature has been above 90 for 1 week straight. Well we have 90 degree
tempature for 4-5 straight months. BUT oh the winters are soooooo nice and
since I've air conditioned my studio, I smile all 12 months.

Dear Tom;
I did not mean for that post to go out to Clayart, as I knew I
would draw the ire of the more weather-endowed crowd! 96 dgrees is pretty
uncomfortable when the concrete sets up faster than you'd like, or if you
lack crew to deal with it.
Cheers, Hank
