I just have to comment about this one...sounds like FLW knew something about
ADHD or at least he described it accidentally!!! Speaking as an adult
labeled with ADHD [for 18 years now]I find the activity and creativity of
pottery theraputic. I've also known of several others like me....this
quote really hits home...

The main problems with ADHD and any job, of course, are following through
and organization. I know this ADHD label is controversial... but what ever
you want to call it ....the wild, driven imagination seems to pop up often
in the arts.

For years I was in graphics and later when I did fine art had no problem
selling my paintings but sitting still drove me nuts. Now, I love the
"moving around" of pottery....and the varied aspects of chemistry,
engineering, construction, decoration and even the mud therapy of wet slime.

Even if I'm just an average potter right now, it lets me express much of
what wanders around in my head all the time. Also, being a bit hyper I have
a problem with breakage and other accidents, pretty comical sometimes...well
no creative outlet is perfect....at least I always have the energy to make
more to compensate.

Claybuds/Lexy,
I bought this house 30 yrs. ago it was a major fixer - uper. I'm still
fixing it up. One of my goals this summer vacation ( I'm a teacher ) was
to finally put the trim on the windows outside.School starts in a week
or so..... guess what? Still haven't done it, but it's on my list.My
students ask me if I have ADDHD cause I never sit down except to eat
lunch - 30 min. - or to throw on the wheel. I told them that when I was
a kid going to school no one knew what it was. When you figited in
class the sister just whacked you with her pointer! Do I have it? I
don't know.. but when the kids get to me I kiss off everything,
including taking roll and start throwing a pots! I mellow out and so do
the kids. I couldn't live without it, gave up on the drugs but cold beer
will get my attention every time! Back to painting the deck, then
another coat of underglaze on the mountain lion.Mike Gordon, Walnut
