first show, a blessing?

I was so excited that a local art gallery wanted me to
have my own 3 week show, but yesterday I dropped off
my work and am now feeling a little disheartened.
First, she wanted my prices to reflect my art, now the
right clientelle are not attending, so could I adjust
my prices accordingly. The wine and cheese "meet the
artist" night was cancelled and I suppose I am just
angry, I feel I was lied to, there is a lesson in
this. Somewhere. How is this different than selling
wholesale? Other than I am not getting paid upon
delivery? My adjusted pricing is similar to what I
was doing 3 years ago, since then I have taken more
courses, grew... I suppose it is to open my eyes to
my personal necessity of having my own showroom, wish
the plumber would hurry up with the rough in so I can
insulate and drywall. Own space, own gallery, own
time commitments, own 40% and listening to lots of
feedback instead of just a curator. Thanks for
listening.
Anyone in the Invermere, B.C area, check out my work
at the new gallery Studio Zed across from the airport.
I think I am more excited about the artist profile of
me in our local Fairmont Hots Springs newsletter.

Get it in writing! When you are asked to do a gallery show, when you are
asked to consign..... get it in writing. The terms. What is expected of you.
What is expected of the gallery. If you had it in writing and the gallery
didn't come through as specified, they would have breached the contract and
you would have been justified to remove your work.

Galleries and shows get away with treating us like dirt because we make them
think that we are so desperate for sales that we will do anything they ask.
