Dale and friends,

Dale, what you said about the "common sense" use of ceramic fiber is well put
and to the point and holds true for many of the practices that we engage in
as potters. As far as "Reducing Raku with oily rags and such", this too falls
under that category. Don't "dis" what you aren't experienced in!!

The point is that people will try reducing in oily rags without having seen
or know how it is done. People will use ceramic fiber without knowing the
potential risks. Then the product or process becomes "extremely dangerous".
I am sure that you get exciting results from this method of reduction
because of your experience. But some people will just by reading a post on
this list, go out and toss some highly combustible material on or in a hot
pot, kiln and will possibly injure themselves or destroy a kiln. It doesn't
even have to be in the ceramic field either. It happens all the time.
No "dis" intended.
