iron in glaze

I empathize with Marianne. A while ago, I went through this fickle =
reactions of iron glaze myself - different bodies, different glaze =
thickness, underfire/overfire, different cooling rates, etc, etc. I =
tried them all. Finally, I got to one final puzzle, which I have not =
yet been able to resolve:

My question is: how can I keep the nice black edges, while keeping the =
nice organge-red adjacent to it? The more orange-red I get, the less =
black it gets at edges. I was theorizing that the thin part, such as =
the edges, has less Fe2O3 and when the carbonacious impuries still left =
from the bisuqe is acting as the reducing agent, causing the Fe2O3 in the =
glaze to become FeO where thin.

If I am on the right track, is there a way to enhance the local =
reduction only at where I want, like around the rim or carved designs? =
I would appreciate any comment, and please correct me, if I am wrong. =
Thank you. Mariko=20
