To those who may have followed my search for a kiln and the purchase of =
a West Coast Kiln, I must share with you the results of the firing I =
just now unloaded. I decided to put it to the " Test": copper red =
and rutile blue here and there on every shelf and, my God! they are =
flawless top to bottom!! I can't believe it for an updraft! (I've =
been prejudice toward downdrafts - no more!)
Thanks to Pete for his Cranberry Red, and for rutile blue 101. Those =
glazes should eventually pay for my kiln. Very commercial, I know, =
but I'm not too proud. Anyway, they are pretty and balance out all my =
mat ash glazes. I must add that Rhodes 32 (aka Mamo, stoney, =
eggshell mat, etc.) flashed a sickly pale purple from all the copper, =
so I won't use it when there is too much copper in the kiln. =20
My firing schedule was 9 hours to cone 10 and that seems about right. I =
can go faster, but no need to. I am a very happy potter now and my =
heartfelt thanks to Chuck Maddox of West Coast Kilns. I believed the =
testimonial he had from good old Carlton Ball, may he rest in peace, =
and I'm glad I did.

Here's to more great firings for us all. Amen.
