Dear Clayarters,
After all the discussion of workshops here is more information about one
in Tuscany.
There are a few openings left in the architectural ceramics workshop
from Oct 12-27. Also
NW airlines has a Fall special for "miles and cash" making the trip
potentially less expensive,
The worlshop costs 2,600,000 Italian Lire or currently $1277.
This includes 15 nights lodging, ten workdays in th studio with demos on
moldmaking, extruding, large slab construction techniques, designing for
site specific situations, slides , and creating work. Sightseeing to
Florence, Siena, Pisa, S. Gimignano, and possibly the Tarot garden of
gigantic mosaic sculpture designed by Niki de Saint Phalle. Also meals
during our workshop days are provided by Christina, a gourmet Tuscan
cook.
Contact me for further information.
Marcia

don't want to worry anyone, but I read that line as "miles and crash", first
time...

I'm envious, as usual...

I have been off Clayart for a while, and I'm not sure about the workshop
discussion that Marcia mentions, but I gather it involved some negative
experiences.

I would like to again recommend Marcia's workshop. I attended her May
architectural ceramics workshop, and it was great. Not only is Marcia
a storehouse of clay knowlege, as you all know from her many answers
to Clayart questions, but she is also a whole lot of fun. It's a nice
balance of looking at art and making it. And as I mentioned before,
the food is fabulous. I highly recommend this to anyone who works
sculpturally in clay and wants to travel. Actually, one of the people in
my group was a talented thrower, and made thrown components for
our project, so that is also a possibility.

It was a very positive experience, and will influence my work for a long time.

Would someone be kind enough to once again provide the source of information
about her workshop in Italy. Thanks.

Ed .

Just to clarify - the private sculpture garden is officially the Gori
collection at the Fattoria di Celle (Celle Farm).
Magnet is the name of the current show which we saw. It features works
installed on the property by artists from all over the world, who were
invited by Mr Gori to come, choose a site and create a work for that
specific site. We spent three hours with a tour guide, but one could easily
spend much longer. A web search for Fattoria di Celle will give you all the
information about the collection.
