sticking bat to wheelhead with batpins

Charles posted a message about the problem of bats lifting off the wheelhead
when using bat pins. It is a simple problem to solve. Just apply a dozen
or so small wads of clay on a circle concentric with the bat pins (no closer
to the center of the wheel), flatten them down with the heel of your hand,
and then install the bat. Once the bat is seated on the bat pins, whack it
in the center with your fist to attach it. It will never lift off the
wheelhead, no matter how hard the pull. When you wish to remove it, use an
old screwdriver to pry it loose. The same wads of clay will last all day.
If they stiffen up, just spray them with water and they will soften up.
Best wishes -
