"Serial returnees" are also a big problem for ceramic suppliers.
One clay supplier friend of mine uses this system, which might
also work for potters:
The first return is fine. No questions asked, but your name
is entered in the little black book.
Ditto for the second return. A check is placed next to your name.
A form must be filled out and signed for the third return. It
states that in order to receive a refund the customer promises to
never again buy anything from said business.

Hey I like this little black book idea. I have just been lucky and have never had
anyone return anything. They usually just come back for another piece to go with
what they bought the first time. Susan

We've done this with wholesale accounts that somehow always have something
missing from the shipment or something broken. The test is when we include an
extra small piece and they don't notify us of it. After that we are "all
booked up" when they try to place and order.
