Penland School of Crafts Winter Studio Rental Information and Application
Process
(Please share with anyone you feel would be qualified)

We are now accepting applications for rental of many of Penland's studios
during the months of January and February 2002. Renters must have been to
Penland as student or instructor. We will notify applicants by November 1st
about the status of their studio and acceptance. Limited housing is
available on campus for an additional $250/month per person. Studio rental
rates are as follows:

Clay, Iron, Books and Paper, Print, Photo, Wood, Textiles, Metals
$50 deposit required for all renters, returned when studio clean-up is
completed
$250/month if renting both January and February
$300/month if renting one month only
Rental of any studio other than glass by the day is $50/day
Glass
Hot shop - $150/day per bench (includes access to cold shop and most
annealers that day)
Cold shop - $50/day
Annealers - $50/day if not renting hot shop

Rental Policies
Rental includes access to equipment, but does not include expendable
materials used in the production of work (except glass batch). Renters will
work with the Winter Studio Monitor to determine fees for expendable
supplies.
Rental does not include technical instruction. Renters must be
qualified to work safely and independently in the studio. Winter Studio
Monitors will approve all renters.
Renters must discuss studio policy with the Winter Studio Monitor and
have reviewed all studio rules and clean-up procedures before moving in.
Renters must agree to participate in a cleanup managed by the Winter
Studio Monitor before moving out of studio.
Renters must understand that pets are not allowed in the studio or in
Penland housing at any time.
Renters must agree to observe all safety procedures and that they will
not use equipment or materials in the studio if they have not been fully
trained to use the equipment by a certified instructor or the Winter Studio
Monitor.
Renters must understand that they will be responsible for replacing any
studio equipment that is damaged or destroyed due to their negligence or
misuse.
