Hi, everyone.

A friend purchased a ceramic plate and would like to know more about it or the maker.

i'm working from a polaroid, so...

FRONT OF PLATE

It's decorated with several colors, mainly in the blues & browns.

The background of the plate is divided into 3 concetric sections, and colored beige
or an orange/brown. these 3 fields are separated with darker lines.

There is a line drawing of an 8-pointed star which radiates from mid-center, partway
to the rim; it is in dark blue. Each of the points is crowned with a rust brown
daub.

The rim of the plate, though smooth, has blue markings which suggest scalloped
edges.

BACK OF PLATE

The back of the plate has the folowing:

Ciaurro
Orvieto
Made in Italy
D6028

The overall colors and decoration suggest majolica, to my uneducated eye.

Sorry that I don't have a scanner...

Thanks in advance for any information on this specific potter or similar work.

I'll forward any responses to my friend.

Sounds like classic majolica from Ovieto, a big production area of
Italian majolica.

Hi Sabra, I suggest you or your friend write to the Tourist Information
Centre, Orvietto, Umbria, Italy and seek more details there. I was in
Orvietto very recently and wanted to see particular potters and the ladies
in the info centre could not have been more helpful.
