"There is no reason to wear gloves when handling colored clays, whether they
are colored with Mason stains or oxides. "

Thanks for the info Vince ... I was only going by what my clay
supplier told me and staying on the side of caution. You wrote a great book
recently, so I guess we can assume you have suffered no obvious brain damage
.. ( Grins ).

On the second topic ... I have been trying to track down how the whole
red gold glaze topic got started and can't track the original post. Was this
some fabulous color we should try?? I have ten years of CM weighing down a
shelf and one of the missing issues is of course Nov 91 where the glaze is
shown. Clues anyone?

Chris -
Well, I don't know about brain damage, but I have not suffered any hand
damage! Seriously, it behooves us all to show restraint before spreading
unfounded cautionary advice. There is way too much alarmism in the clay
world. We must always be concerned about safety, but it is never to our
advantage to declare a material guilty until proven innocent. There is good
information out there about the real hazards of clayworking, and our own
very dear and very generous contributor Dr. Edouarde Bastarache has educated
us all on so many issues of toxicity.
Best wishes -
