Like RR I would say you need to raise the bag wall or target bricks. =
You certainly have enough BTU's so I was thinking that your burners are =
too close to the inlet flues to alow enough secondary air into the kiln. =
I can't remember if you said you had blowers or not. Getting the flame =
to the top of the kiln in the intitial stages of the firing you might =
try the following: 1. keep damper opening to about 2 inches ( I know =
this is counter-intuitive but when I had the same propblem it was =
suggested to me. I no longer do this but it helped me to understand =
what was happening with the kiln at the beginning of the firing.) I =
adjusted the target bricks to break up the flame as it entered the kiln =
so as to get more heat to the back top. My firings are approximately =
15-16 hours long, 60 cu ft downdraft, natural draft burners but only =
400,000 BTU's in total. I am happy with the results I get. My kiln =
fires to approx 1.5 cones between hottest and coolest parts of the =
kiln.. Hope this helps.
