peeling kiln wash

Hello all,

I'm having chronic problems with the kiln wash used in my electric kiln.  After two firings, it peels and curls up, sometimes lodging itself into the glaze. So I scrape and clean the shelves, apply more wash and the cycle repeats itself.  I've used wash from different companies, in the hopes that the problem was the wash.  I use thinner wash, thicker wash, apply it to cool shelves, to warm shelves, nothing works.  But, since it continues to happen, it must something I'm doing (or not doing).  HELP!

I have reached the conclusion that it can sometimes be the shelves. I
have a couple of odd sized shelves (different size than my standard
shelves in the kiln) that I purchased to fire platters and larger based
items on. I didn't want to span two shelves. My kiln wash behaves
perfectly well on all but one shelf. It wont' adhere to this one shelf
for some reason. By outward appearances they are all made by the same
company and of the same material.

Have you tried mixing your own kiln wash? Some formulas are more
powdery, less flaky than others.
