I have a copy of " The self-reliant potter" by Andrew Holden. The one I
have was
published by A&C Black, the ISBN is 0-7136-2244-x. Publishing date is
1982
It covers Glaze, making and using local materials; Raw Glazing; Simple
Kiln
Building - covering designing and building oil and gas kilns and their
burner
systems, also some wood kiln information. There are also plans for a
kick wheel and
an electric wheel and a short article on making simple tools.
The book John Baymore wanted included plans for slab rollers, extruders
etc. The
copy I have does not include this information, so unless it was updated
I would say
this is not the book he wanted. I'm sure this is out of print. I was
told by the
person who lent me this book, who said she knew the author, that he died
some years
ago in a motorcycle accident. I must get this copy back to her sometime
soon

I have been looking for the marvelous book, used to
own it, leant it to a friend (taught me a lesson
though). It has been out of print for many years so
I decieded to e-mail A&C Black with a request to
re-publish. The woman in charge of the ceramics books
said that she would start to look into the feasibility
of this so hopefully this may happen. it might speed
up the process if she recieved some other requests
for this!(v useful book and impossible to get second
time)
They are very to expanding the ceramics range at A
&C's
Also Michael Cardew's Pioneer pottery has recently
been rerelesed in the UK.

.
Jacqui,
Actually it was a guy named Max that was looking for the book.... not me.=
=
I was responding to his qiestion to the list. That's why I tend to do th=
e
clip/snip thing at the beginning of posts...... to help show that I a=
m
responding to something someone else said........ without re-sending the
entire message ....and clogging up the list.
It is SO easy to lose track of who the original poster is on lists like
this ..... perfectly understandable.
Best,
