Have you ever had a brilliant, inspirational and wholly original idea of
what to do with a lump of clay only to find that someone else has already
done it? (and quite well at that).
If you are interested, look at http://www.powning.com/studio/raku3.html

That is a great piece of Raku, but didn't someone do that at
Stonehenge?
I was extremely clever once. I threw lids that looked like Japanese
pagodas, the tall finniel and the long sweeping top that flies down the
pot a ways past it's plug lid. Yes, the design had been done before,
but mine was thrown Rightside Up! All one throw, no trimming. I was
real proud of myself.
One day in an antique shop I spotted a jar with a lid that looked like
my lids. It was supposed to be over 100 years old. When I picked up
the lid and looked inside my pride was shattered as I looked into the
hollow finniel, the mark of a lid thrown right side up.
It is soooooo hard to do something original in clay.

Two people could attempt to do the exact same piece and there would be
something intrinsically different between the two. Not anything you could
explain... I wouldn't worry about trying to be original. (quote, end quote.)
