Hello everyone-

Recently, a dog owned by two dear friends of mine
passed away, and knowing that they were very attached
to it, offered to use some of the ash they got back
from the vet in a recipie for a few memorial mugs and
bowls. the recipie i had in mind was, I thought, in
the back of one of the pottery making illustrated
magazines. It was written by someone who went through
this very thing and he came up with a shiny black
glaze using 10% ash. the article was about three pages
long and listed the recipie and a picture of the mug
made with the ash. I looked through every copy of PMI
I could find in my cabin, but to no avail. I thought
it was Ron Roy, but he says it wasn't. Does anyone
remember this and where it came from? Unless I'm
missing an issue, it was n't in PMI.
Any helpful hints would be gratefully
appreciated.
Also, I have yet to get any red out of a rosenrot
recipie. I fire to ^5 and my latest test two weeks ago
showed a grey shiny glaze. I'll keep at it though.

Kind Regards

Where the temperature if FINALLY dropping below 90,
and rain is surely on the way.

I remember reading about that glaze too and I think it was here on
Clayart. The glaze was called Black Tuesday or maybe recent events make me
think Tuesday, it was some day of the week anyway. Good luck, Joan Klotz.

Gregg,

I believe you may be referring to Jeff Zamek's Cone 6 "Black Friday Glaze".
The "Black Friday" article appears in the May 2001 Ceramics Monthly. Also
appears in his book "What Every Potter Should Know".

Good luck,

Jim Murphy

I saw this recipe in the back of a new pottery book just a few weeks ago;
don't remember the author's name, sorry. It was called "Black Friday".

I believe that the article and recipe was from Jeff Zamek. That was the
name that first popped into my head...but I may be wrong. If so, so sorry!

Thanks Jim-

I bought a used pug mill from a woman in Berkeley
Ca., this summer, and I got a box of old CM's too, 10
years worth. I have gone through all of them marking
and copying what i want for my own notebook, and was
loath to go through all of them again looking for this
article until I asked the list. It took weeks and
weeks of going through all of them at the very end of
the day, usually 9 pm- 10 pm, when i fall fast asleep.
I really did think it was in PMI, tho i began to
suspect it wasn't when i could n't find it. So thanks
again for the info!!

Kind Regards
