While visiting my family at Christmas this past year, my Dad was so =
excited about his new video tape, "The Best of Lawrence Welk" that he =
wanted everyone to watch a few minutes just for the memories. Well, he =
was a little disappointed when the crowd returned back to conversation. =
Still one of his favorite musicians on the show I remember is Myron =
Floren the accordion player. Mr. Welk also started as an accordion =
player. The accordion is very popular here in San Antonio with all the =
different mixes of cultural music, German, Polish polkas, Cajun, =
Tex-Mex, Conjunto. Myron still comes down most every year in November to =
perform polkas at the "Wurstfest" a little ways up the road north of =
here in New Braunfels Texas. Plenty of fun, beer, and sausages. This =
weekend in San Antonio is the "International Accordion Festival". You =
know that there will be a lot of boot scootin' on the plaza. And it's =
free! For the strong hearted accordion lovers, you won't want to miss =
the annual "Accordion Abuse Festival" held at the Guadalupe Cultural =
Arts Center. So much music and fun! I love it all!=20
Try some polkas while making pots! Watch out for the tiny champagne =
bubbles.
