The smoother the surface of your pot, the better
crackle. If it is crackle white, let it sit out in
the air so the outside temperature cools faster then
inside the clay wall--this causes the
crazing/crackling--and then reduce it.

Try spraying a little water on there to to fascilitate
cracking. I used sugar water in
undergrad--interesting--sugar carbonizes (is that
word) and helps blacken the lines--of course you can
ink if you had too--but if you reduce right you won't
need too.

I just use saw dust now, sometimes top secret
shreddings of paper works well. I would say saw dust
works the best but try a number of different reduction
materials to see what you like. Good luck.

As for your copper, move that pot as fast as you can
into the chamber, have your reduction materials all
set up, set it in a nest on the ground or in a can,
have sawdust on your lid, throw it on, wait a few
second--let it breath, and then seal the chamber.

IF you want a super duper seal--use a new can and or
wet newspaper lay it around the edges of the can to
get a really tight seal.

Good luck.
