I pulled an old Japanese import out of the cabinet last night and saw that
the rim is brown on this piece. In examining it someone made a slight error
in painting the rim. It is an iron glaze that is painted around the rim-the
remainder is a different glaze. It looks as if the piece was glazed, the rim
wiped clean and then the iron glaze painted around the rim. Perhaps this is
how the celadons were glazed in the museum.Dorothy
