Half an hour after my last post about "Laika Model", my husband and I were
driving to a nearby town and couldn't take the scenic route because there
was a law enforcement drill going on. There was a guy with his dog waiting
there too, and my husband jokingly asked whether his dog was going to help
with the drill, and the guy said, "Not unless he can go in as a canary".
OH! I'm thinking, did that artist set about to memorialize dogs who are
trained to sniff out noxious gases? But surely the piece was made before
all the rescue and recovery going on in NY? Just shows you how important
context and frame of reference can be.
