I, too, am experimenting/testing..... have a load in now . I don't know =
about the holes in the glaze ..... that's just the way it looked to me =
...... maybe something was put on top the glaze.... but I'm poking =
through to the slip beneath. Tempted to use the fumable salts to =
represent stars but decided it's too early on to mess with Kurt's tried =
and true method.=20
Actually, I'm testing on little plates made with each of my claybodies =
... and layering and using slips. So Susan's Sapphire Blue is either on =
Coleman's B-Mix, or his porcelain.... or maybe even B-Mix with Sand. =
I've been making the plates for awhile now with whatever clay left after =
throwing other pots ..... since July, I think. I like the sort of =
cloudy effect she achieves with her slips beneath her Jewel Base glazes.
Just have to wait until this load is done and cooled. I'm anxious =
enough anyhow since I have
Kurt's fumed salts in it .... the mayor's shino with extra soda ash on =
white clay layered beneath any red or green or blue etc that I had =
available .... as well as Hank's red shino...... just seeing how the =
latter would look if I didn't have a full load of the red and fired it =
with other glazes. (And the REAL firing of Hank's shino will be next =
week when I'll have a full load of just his glazes..... the red, for =
sure, and the smooth if I have time to get it ready. If not, the smooth =
shino will be fired alone later. And I won't be messin' with the =
firing.
I am NOT the right person to ask ..... so just doing the best I can to =
respond. If this doesn't help, maybe it will trigger a response from =
somebody who can answer experientially.

In the Mojave where the wind has blown out the gas flame twice today =
..... built a shelter around the burner entry .... crude but I hope =
effective.
