I am a member of your guild and think it is a great group. I think a
co-sponsored work shop would be a good idea and I personally do not see a
conflict of interest. I see it as a chance to have better and bigger work
shops (not implying that they haven't been great), but as a opportunity to
be able to afford more of a variety of talent.
