After reading a recent responce from Ron Roy I was wondering if this glaze
we are using could also have a problem of severe crawling. Over the past
year this glaze has been spitting the glaze off large areas of pots during
firing. Shape does not seem to matter. We are firing to a hard cone 6 ox.in
most cases. This glaze has also been over fired and under fired with the
same results. The spitting does not always occur and does not seem to be
associated with any one clay body or firing. Since the same batch of glaze
in the same firing may on one pot spit it off and another pot of the same
clay body may have no ill effects. This has happened on B-mix, Buff
Stoneware, Cone 6 porcelain and some iron bearing cone 6 stoneware bodies
and anywhere between Cone 5-7 firings.
Any help or suggestions are appreciated. Here is the recipe we are using.
