My raku kiln is very simple, made out of barrel. It was cut to about
50 Cm high, (20 Inch). inside it has ceramic fiber. The fiber
connected
To the barrel with buttons made out of raku claybody that was fired to
stoneware temperature. The button has two holes - you can make them
easily using disposal cups, for the shape, the way cookies are made.
Around the barrels there are holes, about one C'm wide to make
comfortable the moving of the chrome-nickel thread which holds together
the barrel and the fiber: There is one button outside to any
inside. There is fiber on the floor and the cover too. The fiber on the
floor reinforced by the fiber on the sides. In the barrel about two
inches from the bottom there is a 2 inches rounded holes to let the
fire in. I made the cover from a cover of grease barrel as these are
smooth ones. there are three small metal tong to help finding the right
place of the lead. I sprayed the inside with a material called
Energizer to avoid breathing the harm particles of the fiber. In the
kiln I put three kiln post or fire resist bricks + a kiln shelf. The
are two handles to the kiln as well as to the top. When you make the
handles you must remember to make it wide as you will use it with big
gloves. In the middle of the top there is a hole, about 5 inch wide.
I make all the work by myself. The small table I have here is a big
help. I slide the top of the kiln, when I have to remove it to this
little table, saves time and my back. The next time I will repair it I
will add a tiny shelf for cones.
It's advantage is it's heaviness. it is a solid kiln!

If it does not work go to
http://members4.clubphoto.com/ababi306910/ from there to Raku kiln.

Still I think you should buy Branfman's Raku Practical Approach for
practical approach and David Jones Investigation into Raku for deeper
investigation of what and why.
