Llewellyn,
This comes up every so often on Clayart. A tip I received at a Steven =
Hill workshop and passed along before - place the wedged piece of clay =
sideways on the wheel. Don't worry about clockwise or counterclockwise. =
Then, pat and thump the clay until it's relatively symetrical before =
you start the centering and throwing process. Also, per a tip from Jeff =
Zamek (I think) in one the pottery mags, cone up and down several times =
before you open the clay and start to pull. These procedures will help =
eliminate s-cracks on the bottom of your pots, if that's been a problem =
for you. They've helped me a lot.
