he then turned to me....winked...yes, winked.
and said in perfect king's english.
`nice touch with the pretty girl, nice. and my wife just
picked up your camera, she has it in the kitchen.

Great story Mel. Have to admire Hamadas sense of humour. Sounds like he
enjoyed himself as much as you. One to remember!! lindsay

Dear Mel;
He also read and spoke Russian, translating a lot of the research
being done in glaze-tech there. A couple of Dos Equis, and he was a riot.
Somehow think of Clennell and he going several rounds together. Would that
be a hoot!
Cheers, Hank

Dear hank: I'd be as quiet as a mouse. I loved that guys pots to death. My
favs are the ones with the loosey goosey glaze ladling on them- kaki over
temoku. the line between loose and bad is so fine. he just seemed to be
able to pull it off. People think ladling is easy. try it and see how fast
you can make a good pot look bad. And his faceting and slip ladling- gee.
i just looked at my book Leach, Hamada and Their Circle and I must say his
pots are among my all time favourites. I'd buy him beer, vodka or whatever
he wanted. It would be my pleasure and I'd be on best behaviour.
OK, I might make fun of his shoes
cheers,
tony
