Hello claybuds
What percent would you recommend adding of mason stains to a clay body (a
danish white stoneware fired ^6 oxidation)? (and yes I know some of them
are not recommended as a body stain). I know about the dry clay out slake
method, and wondering if any of you out there has weighed the moist clay and
added a percentage to that and wedged it in.
Thanks.

Susan,
I added some Mason stains to a porcelain body. Wetted the stain and then
just wedged it into the porcelain. Exactly as Vince had described. I did
not weigh the stain nor the clay. The color was a bit lighter after being
fired and glazed with a transparent glaze, compared to the freshly wedged
clay plus stain.I used less of the blue and green stains, as compared to
the yellow and pink. Mia

Hi Susan
Usually one teaspoon of mason stain to 100 grams of moist clay works pretty
well for me at ^5. Pinks need more stain; browns usually less.
Have fun,

thanks mia, appreciate your help.
I know that the mason people recommend 5-15% added to a glaze, but just
throwing it in, a bit at a time, to wet clay , hey what could be easier?
regards
susan
